Bernie I won't argue with as he had nothing to do with Victim of Love. Unfortunately, Bell had nothing to do with Street Boogie nor it's parent album VICTIM OF LOVE. The artist was not fully satisfied with the initial results of the three-song Mama Can't Buy You Love EP, which became as much a product of Philly soul maverick Thom Bell as it did John. It was not critically or commercially well-received, and is Elton John's third lowest charting album to date in the US, after 1986's Leather Jackets and 1985's Ice on Fire. This was providing that John's contributions would be limited to providing vocals only. Key Tracks: Thunder In The Night, Born Bad. 1979's 'Victim of Love' isn't horrible because it's Elton John going disco, but because it's a terrible collection of forgettable songs. The Rocket Record Company, The Rocket Record Company. This thoroughly dated affair is the result of a chance re-acquaintance between Elton John vocals and Pete Bellotte producer. Elton John goes disco, arguably one of his most fun listens but not in the way he probably intended. It is a disco album, released shortly after the peak of disco's popularity. Most folks would rate it much lower (for example, it has a 1.70/5 average on rym at the moment, whereas Leather Jackets has a 2.09/5.Goode, Warm Love In A Cold World and more. 5s, I'd probably round it down to a 3 rather than up to a 4). I probably wouldn't rate Victim of Love lower than a 7/10 (although on 5-point scale where we can't do. although really, even though I listed it as my lowest-ranked, I'd say that maybe Victim of Love is more underrated. Underrated - all three of my Elton favorites tend to be underrated, especially Rock of the Westies and Blue Moves, but since I already picked those two, I'll go with Leather Jackets as the most underrated. It's often folks' favorite, but I'd only rank it somewhere around the middle of the list. By no means do I dislike it, but for me it's basically Elton's Aqualung. If I'm ranking them, something has to be at the bottom. Worst - there are no Elton albums I dislike, but as with many others, Victim of Love might be my least favorite. For me this truly solidified his comeback from those synth-laden over-produced 90's (MIE excluded of course)īest - toss up between Rock of the Westies and Captain Fantastic for me, with Blues Moves not far behind. I consider it a very solid follow up to SFTWC and listen to it almost as much as I do that album. (It's not one of his best works but I've never understood why this album gets so much flak. To me it's pretty uneven and never really clicked for me as an album. Overrated: Sleeping With The Past (Immediately hides, It's often listed as one of his finest 80's works, which.I just can't really agree with. Worst: Victim of Love (IMO Duets and Leather Jackets each have at least 2 mediocre songs on them, which is more than can be said of this disco sludge fest) Best: Madman Across The Water (I know this is very much a love/dislike album with not much inbetween but set me firmly in the love list) My second choice would be Live in Aussie with the MSO, which would be my absolute top favourite had his voice been in a better condition (I can listen past it, but I know it's a dealbreaker for many)
